3rd stage of the Dovrefjell national park trek, Norway (5 days)

Dovrefjell is a mountain range in central Norway that forms a natural barrier between Eastern Norway and Trøndelag, the area around Trondheim. As a result, it has been heavily trafficked during and probably preceding historical times. Several mountain inns were established in the Middle Ages to house pilgrims traveling to Trondheim, and there are even ruins of an old leper colony in the northern area of it.
It is the natural habitat for many rare plants and animals. It became a national park in several stages starting in 1911, when some plants were put under protection. When the railroad was built from Oslo to Trondheim in 1921, one of the marshes was preserved. In 1974, parts of the range became a national park and the park was extensively enlarged in 2002. Together with Rondane, it has Norway and Europe's last stock of wild reindeer of Beringian origin. Dovrefjell (west of E6/Dovrebanen) also has a stock of musk oxen, imported from East-Greenland in 1932.

The route of the Dovrefjell national park trek - Norway was built with a dual purpose: to Discovery the fauna and flora (in summer) of the beautiful natural area of Dovrejfell, and to approach Snøhetta (2,286 m): the highest mountain in the Dovrefjell range and the third highest in Norway, inside Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park.

The 3rd stage of the trek we will go from the refuge of Åmotdalshytta (1,308 m) to the refuge of Reinheim (1,346 m), following the same route as the previous day. We turn to pass through the highest point of the itinerary, the hill of Leirpullskardet (Leirpullskardet pass - 1,555 m), with superb views over the highest mountain in the Dovrefjell range, and the third highest mountain in Norway inside the Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park: the mountain Snøhetta (2,286 m).
