Saturday 30.03.2019 - Stage 1: Finsehytta - Krækkja
Due to the large influx of people in Finsehytta this morning (today begins the weekend), the shelter announces that it will advance breakfast half an hour, at 7:30. Which for us is not to dislike, given the distance of the stage to Krækkjahytta: about 24 km. Outside, the incessant whistle of the wind reminds us of the bad forecast for today, with gusts of more than 40 km / h and moderate rainfall in the form of snow.
We have breakfast and go down to the torkerom-the room enabled to dry clothes and material. There we prepare the equipment. All the wet clothes of yesterday have dried during the night. We tied the backpacks to the sledges that this year serve us as pulka and with every square centimeter of skin protected under the ski mask, we went out to put on the skis. The manual fixation Rottefella of my new Fisher is a marvel, as well as my new boots: a BCX5 back country of the same brand. This year, let's premiere!
At nine o'clock in the morning we set off, heading south. We crossed the Finse-vatnet. The route starts with a slight climb through the Finse-etne. We crossed the Styggelvane and gradually gained altitude to the great lake of Bratteffonn-vatnet (1,381 m), after which, after a last climb, we reached the pass. We have reached the maximum height of the day: 1,400 m. In all the climb has not stopped snowing. Protected inside a windbag, a small group of skiers try to take cover behind some rocks ... It is very bad weather.
On the other side of the pass begins the descent in immaculate snow! We reached the great lake of Midnute (1,323 m) until a second steeper descent. There, ice plates accelerate our pace and we advance as best we can, trying not to tip the sledges. We cross the Finnsbergvatnet (1,190 m) and prepare to attack the second hill that separates us from our target, at 1,249 m in height. Here we will have to suffer a bit ... The slope is completely frozen and we can only advance by climbing, dragging the sledges. Part of the companions decide to take off their skis and go up the small stretch that is left walking. The rest of the route is made without incident to the shelter of Krækkjahytta (DNT, 1,163 m) which we arrived under an intense snowfall.
