Tuesday 02.04.2019 - Stage 4: Rauhelleren - Mårbu
A window! That is the first word that comes to us when describing this route; and what a window ... Yesterday afternoon, before nightfall we recognize the road today when it leaves Rauhellerenhytta: a route that goes to the southeast, crossing the Langesjøen, marked with sticks every 20 meters like any route that goes between refuge and shelter.
We leave around 9 am in the morning, a little earlier than usual. From the south a terrible wind blows and by its direction, we will face it for almost the entire route. In the crossing of the lake we see up to 4 sticks that is, barely about 80 meters of visibility. A world in motion surrounds us: the ground, the air laden with the snow that drags the blizzard are confused with the horizon in a relentless cold; We are all closed, every inch of skin protected by several layers of clothing. How annoying is this wind!
After the lake the wind does not subside, it increases speed with gusts of more than 22 m / s (80 km / h); Sometimes, it destabilizes us. In the sections where there is no snow on the ground, only ice, it is difficult to progress. We grab each other as we can by pushing on the skis, pressing on the poles. We pass the Reinvassdalen - this valley between the Tjuvhyttnutan (1,362 m) and the Reinavasshovda (1,345 m), cross the Reinavatnet and turn around the small mountain of Krossvasshovda, always following the same direction. After a while, we reach the highest point of the day at the Krossvasshovda pass (1,300 m) and arriving from the other side, we begin the descent of the Grøntjønndalen valley. We pass on the shores of Lake Kosadalsvatnet (1,138 m) and continue until we touch the westernmost tip of the great lake of Mår (1,121 m). On the other shore, overlooking the lake, are the cabins of Mårbu (1,127 m).
