Thursday 04.04.2019 - Mount Haraldshovde (1,289 m)
Any well-planned crossing must have one or more "wild days" depending on its duration, in order to cover any delays due to bad weather. Tomorrow is the penultimate stage of this journey and the weather forecast for the next few days is good. Thus says the part: "partly cloudy tomorrow morning, cloudy on the evening with gentle breeze from east (4 m / s); sunny on Saturday morning with light breeze from south (3 m / s); 1018-1020 hPa" (Yr 5.5.7, NRK & Norwegian Meteorologisk Institutt). Apparently, we don't have to fear any unforeseen events and we can spend our wild day today on Kalhovd or tomorrow, at the free shelter of Helberghytta. We can use a rest day and the truth is that the conditions in Kalhovdhytta are better than we will have in the next shelter, so we will spend Thursday in the vicinity of Kalhovd. Near here, as a "light" exit, one option is to ascend Mount Harald: the highest peak in the area, with its 1,289 m. The approach to the Haraldshovde follows the same route to the south as that of the Helberghytta and after four kilometers it enters the massif in the northeast, just past the lake Reinstjønni (1,137 m). The ascent to the peak is smooth and you have not lost a day of good visibility. The peak has a double top, which, at the height of 1,289 m, offers a magnificent view over the Skardfjell in the east.
The return to Kalhovd can be done by undoing the ascent path or crossing Lake Trolltjønni (1,133 m) and then flanking the Trolltjønnatten, the Trolltjønnuten and the Trolltjønnibba, to the Vøgårhovde radiotelephone repeater (1,260 m).
