Itinerary description

A much more interesting way to get from the Amitges Hut to the Estany Llong hut, skinning up to the 2598m breche between Pic del Portarró and Pic Inferior del Portarró and then bootpacking up the east ridge of Pic del Portarró. This involves rock scrambling and is best done by a party with climbing experience. You could ski off from the breche to the col Portarró d'Esport following the diagonal traverse line of the summer path, which would be much easier.
The summit offers great views and the ski down the south face (30 degrees) to the col Portarró d'Esport and then on down the river valley - barranc del Portarró - to the lake Estany Llong would be superb in good snow.
You have to shuffle/pole across the lake and through the trees at the end to reach the hut.
(Note: I forgot to switch on the GPS for the first 2/3 of the track, I have recreated this on a map but it is accurate for following the line.)
