Itinerary description
Wonderful tour up a peak better known for rock-climbing that for ski-touring. We got it at just the right moment, with snow all the way to the road. Cross the river via log bridge to access the forest. When climbing up/along the ridge towards the Dent, staying just below on the left (north) side seems to provide the easiest line. Once out of the forest the views start to open out and just get better as you go higher. The NE face of the Dent rises towards 40 degrees at its steepest and in icy conditions you might need to climb it with boot crampons and an axe. We were able to skin all the way virtually to the summit. The views from the top are superb and the ski down great fun. (If skiing off in poor viz be very careful not to go too far on skiers right.) The forest was more fun to ski through that it looked when we were going up. Overall a great adventure outing with little chance of meeting other skiers.
