Itinerary description
From Pas de la Casa to the Port de Fontnegra, traversing around the back of Pic del Port de Fontnegra and Pic l'Esquella.Then a steep ski descent and another skin to get down and round the back of Pic Occidental de Fontnegra. Skin up to the col, Portella de les Vallets, the ski down to the Pla de la Portella de Valletes and ski out to Pas de la Casa.
The traversing across the back of Pic del Port de Fontnegra towards Pic l'Esquella is steep and likely avalanche prone. You need stable snow. The descent behind Pic d'Esquella is steep, at least 40 degrees, with rock, at least when the snow cover is low. The descent from Portella de les Vallets to the Pla de la Portella de Valletes is wide but may be steeper than 40 degrees in one place.
We did this at a time of very low snow - there is normally more cover than the photos show.
