Itinerary description
A nice mountain with easy access from Cadi tunnel / Cerdanya / La Seu d'Urgell. Not 5 star due to the long traverse needed at the start and end to get across from Lles de Cerdanya, which is a cross-country ski station. Most tourers do the very easy but slightly higher 2905m Tossa Plana de Lles. This is the peak to the left (west) of it, a bit further to traverse but a much more interesting peak to ascend and ski down.
Begin by following a snowshoe track from the ski station through the forest, once past the refuge follow the cross-country ski track (road in summer) until it makes sense to turn up towards the south ridge of Tossal Bovinar. Climb up towards the ridge and follow it to the summit. There are beautiful views into the Madriu valley of Andorra and across the Pyrenees as far as Aneto.
You can also go up the river valley on the east side and come up the north face but that can be very rocky. When snow allows you may be able to ski off down a steep canal on the east side - best to have skinned up under it to check out conditions. This is a peak that is often short of snow. Or ski down the very enjoyable south-east flank and skate/pole/slide back along the cross-country ski tracks and finally the snowshoe track to the resort.
Beautiful views across onto the Cadi!
