Itinerary description
The Caminho da Geira is only signposted for hikers. I have tried to stay as close to the walking route as possible on cycleable routes.
There is information about the Caminho da Geira on the web. E.g. "https://www.debragaasantiago.com/geira-arrieiros". Paper guides are also available for purchase in Spanish, French and English. (see website). Unfortunately there is nothing available for touring cyclists. Because I stay close to this route, the overnight accommodations mentioned in the guide for hikers are also useful for cyclists.
Neither the website of the Flemish Society nor the site of the Dutch Society contains information about the Caminho da Geira.
There is also a second organization that has recently marked a road from Braga to Santiago: the Camiño Miñoto Ribeiro.
"https://www.caminominotoribeiro.com/en/camino-minoto-ribeiro.htm" Unlike the Caminho da Geira, it is not (at this time - Easter 2024) on the list of the official Ways of St. James of the pilgrimage office in Santiago. That's why I didn't look at this alternative. This road is mainly supported by the (tourist offices of the) municipalities along the route.
Unlike Spain, there are hardly any cyclists on the road in Portugal. That is why it is never indicated on one-way streets that cyclists are allowed to cycle against traffic. This is annoying, but I have not received a fine between Salamanca and Galicia, despite the fact that I sometimes cycled in the wrong direction past police officers.
Possible stages are
1 Braga - Campo do Gerês 42.0 km - Ascent 823 m
Turismo Rural Albergaria Stop
2 Campo do Gerês - Ribadavia 88.6 m - Ascent 1601 m
Hostal Evencio "Garden Lodge"
3 Ribadavia - Forcarei 65.7 km - Ascent 1358 m
Hostal Paris
4 Forcarei - Santiago de Compostela 48.3 km - Ascent 685 m
Albergue "La Credencial
