Itinerary description
The Camino Torres is only signposted for hikers. I have tried to stay as close to the walking route as possible on cycle routes.
The Camino Torres does not have many pilgrims. There is no paper guide with maps of the route yet. Because a Garmin cycling GPS only shows a small part of the area, I also installed with maps from Openfietsmap.nl on my phone. This way, in the event of a diversion, I can look for an alternative route without being dependent on the re-routing facility of my GPS
There is a lot of information, including about accommodation options, on the website "https://caminotorres.com/". Information in Dutch can be found on the sites of the Flemish or Dutch Compostela Society.
Contrary to my original planning, I used N-roads in Portugal instead of small (steep, up to 15% gradient) roads. In the sparsely populated north of the country, there is little traffic on these N-roads so you can cycle safely there. They are also not that steep: in general the gradient does not exceed 7%.
Unlike Spain, there are hardly any cyclists on the road in Portugal. That is why it is never indicated on one-way streets that cyclists are allowed to cycle against traffic. I've been stopped twice by the police for driving against traffic, but only received a warning each time.
Possible stages are
1 Salamanca - Robliza de Cojos 36.3 km - Ascent 518 m
(Visited Salamanca in the morning - I didn't leave until after noon)
Albergue Municipal of Robliza - Keys at the Alcalde
2 Robliza de C. - Ciudad Rodrigo 80.5km - Ascent 596 m
Albergue Turistico La Concha
3 Ciudad Rodrigo - Pinhel 68 km - Ascent 942 m
Turismo Rural La Casa da Praça
4 Pinhel - Sernancelhe 59.3 km - Ascent 1033 m
Turismo Rural Solar dos Carvalhos
5 Sernancelhe - Mesâo Frío 76.7 km - Ascent 944 m
Turismo Rural Quinta do Casal
6 Mesâo Frío - Guimarães 64.1 km - Ascent 1365 m
Hostel Living Hostel
After leaving the Quinta do Casal, the road goes up steeply with a gradient of up to 25%.
Along the way you have to cross an 800 m pass. During the climb the average gradient was 8% with peaks of up to 12%.
7 Guimarães - Braga 26.2 km - Ascent 451 m
I did not spend the night in Braga but continued cycling towards Santiago over the Caminho da Geira
