Itinerary description

This route "Paris - Mont-St-Michel" in combination with the route "Mont-St-Michel - St-Jean-d'Angély" is an alternative to the Sweerman St James (Jacobs) cycle route between Paris and St Jean-d'Angély.
It is based on the "Véloscénie", a cycle route between Paris and Mont-St-Michel, and the pilgrimage route between both places. The Véloscénie (sometimes also written as Véloscénic) has the advantage that it is an easily cycleable route. The pilgrim route has the advantage that there are affordable overnight stays along the route, but as a walking route you cannot cycle everywhere. It is also almost 50 km shorter than the Véloscénie.
That's why I've created a route that combines the benefits of both.
An overview of the accommodation options can be found in the guide "De Paris au Mont-St-Michel - En Chemin vers la Merveille" published by "Editions Lepère". This book not only contains an overview of the overnight accommodation options but also has a map of the route for pedestrians (useful for an overview of the area. This is important if a road is closed and you need to follow an alternative route. The route for cyclists is chosen in such a way that, with a few minor exceptions especially the first day, the cycle route can easily be drawn on the maps in the guide with a marker pen.It is available from Amazon or directly from the publisher "www.lepere-edditions.com".
You can also download a list of overnight accommodations from the departmental Confraternities of St James along the route. These lists mainly consist of the private addresses of (ex-)pilgrims and are only valid for one year. That is why I do not mention the exact name. I just say "APD" (Acceuil Pèlerin à Domicile - Overnight stay at a pilgrim's home). The URL to the website of such a Confraternity of St James can be found via Google by searching for "Association Jacquaire" and the name or number of the department.
There are five stages:
1 Paris (Fontaine St-Michel) - Rambouillet 75 km Ascent: 629 m
Apart Hotel "Villa Rambouillet)
2 Rambouillet - St-Luperce 70.4 km Ascent 367 m
Hotel Routier La Monicerie
3 St-Luperce - Alençon 113.1 km Ascent 1154 m
Maison d'Accueil Louis et Zélie
4 Alençon - Mortain 107.5 km Ascent 898 m
Gîte Le Cance - Neufbourg
To avoid a detour of a few km you have a steep section with a slope of 20%
5 Mortain - Mont-St-Michel 57.2km Ascent 145m
Maison du Pelerin
The Pilgrims' Hostel is located at the entrance to the abbey. To get there you have to climb the last 50 meters via stairs. Difficult.
