Itinerary description
Day 07 Rigny-Usse to Savonnieres 36.1 km
Up and out of the campground with a quick stop for pictures of Château d'Ussé. We did not tour this chateau, maybe we should have but we are headed to Château d'Azay-le-Rideau and Château de Villandry and were looking at château overload. Again we headed up the Loire and then turned off to follow L’Indre river. We came upon Chateau de L'Islette (N47.26754° E0.43426°) and stopped for a quick walk through the grounds. This privately owned chateau favorably impressed us, worth a visit. Next on to Azay-le-Rideau Chateau (N47.25902° E0.46574°). Worth the visit to the Château and grounds; unfortunately, the Château was undergoing renovations and large sections were closed off and hidden under tarps. Lunch in Azay-le-Rideau, then up and over high ground and into Le Cher river valley near Villandry. We stopped at the Villandry tourist information office and they directed us to Confluence Camping (N47.34988° E0.54968°) just up river in Savonnieres. We headed there and set up camp. We will tour Villandry in the morning. We had a surprisingly good dinner at Le Saponaire (N47.34819° E0.54900°) in Savonnieres. The set dinner menu was excellent and very reasonable priced.
