LAGOONS OF LAGUARDIA

The lagoons of Laguardia: Carralogroño, Carravalseca, Musco and El Prao are included in the Ramsar list among the world's most important wetlands in the European ecological network Natura 2000.
This protected biotope has become a resting place for hundreds of different species of birds, especially during the period from September to March. There are facilities for bird watching.
The proximity of these wetlands to the monumental town of Laguardia with its privileged location in an environment rich in ethnography, culture, gastronomy... give this route the necessary ingredients to enjoy a full day among vineyards.
On this 10 km journey we suggest visiting all the lagoons, on your way to the Wine and Fish (GR-38), ancient trade way between the lands of La Rioja and seaports of the coast of Biskay.
Contrasting this landscape, several landmark buildings, representing local wineries, mark the roads, featuring architects such as Santiago de Calatrava, Frank Gehry...
ITINERARY

The starting point is the parkinglot that is located in a residential area just off the town of Laguardia. Right after leaving the village, you will find the parking place to the left, on Logroño road. Cross the road and a few meters to the left, take a paved road right directed to two wineries.

Fork. Take a right. follow the path on your right and you will find the Carravalseca lagoon to your left.

Fork. Turn left and follow the asphalt road, then join the GR-38, which will be our guide in much of the route.

Fork. You keep left.

Straight ahead on the right.

Fork. Continue straight along the road to the left.

After a slight rise, you will reach a junction where you turn right. Carralogroño lagoon on your left.

Beware! Road with traffic.
You arrive at the A-124. Stay on it for 150 meters and then turn right.

At the opposite side of the road on our left, an asphalt road starts. Follow the GR.

Continue straight along the road to the left.

Fork. Take the left path.

Turn right leaving the paved road and take the track following the GR.

Turn left along a track and then to the right, following the GR.

Descend a small hill with bike in hand in order to make the track surrounding the: El Prao de la Paul lagoon. Continue to the right leaving the GR.

By turning left, you will get to the bird observatory.

Crossing. Take a left.

Continue sorrounding the lagoon.

At this point you leave the lagoon, turn right.

Crossing. You turn left onto a paved road.

Turn right at the beginning of the residential area and arrive at the starting point.
