VASCO NAVARRO. SANTO TORIBIO- ACEDO
Distance: 25,9 km
Length: 2,5 h.
The final section of the route of the old Alava Basque railway line that linked Estella with Bergara.
This section is connected to the previous part of the Basque Navarro railroad ending in Santo Toribio.
The railroad crossed the lush mountains of Alava. Today, through the recovery journey, you will discover the beauty of places of historical interest such as walled Antoñana and the town of Santa Cruz de Campezo and other valuable natural landscapes such as Lóquiz Mountains Natural Park Nature Reserve Lasia Ravine, Izki Natural Park and the mountains of Iturrieta. Our tour ends in Navarre, in the town of Acedo.
ITINERARY

The historic church of Santo Toribio, halfway between Musitu and Maeztu will be our starting point
There, you will find a post with instructions. Take the direction "Maeztu station". You will cross a road from the quarry and ascend a small ledge. You will see a red pipe ahead of you.

You merge toward the left, taking the road that runs parallel to the red pipe. You are on the route of the old Basque Navarro.

Crossing. Go straight. In this section you will leave on your right the old Cicujano station.

You go through the Leorza tunnel. Several meters ahead you will cross another bridge coloured red.

You'll reach Maeztu. Go straight, down the street on the left, until you reach the station, now the city hall of Arraia-Maeztu.

After passing the station, continue straight along the gravel road located slightly to the left.

Go over the road on a red footbridge and follow the path.

Head towards Atauri, leave the Ermita de la Soledad to your right.

Beware! We turn right, ascending a small hill. Then, in a few meters, go down the tunnel through the town of Atauri, remerging the Vasco Navarro railway track.

Turn left and go through the underground tunnel to dodge the road.

You may have circulated more than 100 meters of asphalt. Turn right and you will join the track, Antoñana bound.

Footbridge over the River Berrón. A few meters away is a fountain to cool down (km 8.6).

Fuenfría go through the tunnel.

Cross the road on the steel walkway. You will reach the center of interpretation of this pathway in Antoñana.

After the center, turn right and then left to merge onto the highway. Beware! You will travel 600 meters down the road. Attention to possible traffic.

Exit the road to your left, then merge to a path that leads back shortly to the route of the railway.

The road forks. Continue along the path to the left and follow the bridge over the river Berrón.

Cross the wooden footbridge over the road. Within walking distance you will find the local park Fresnedo.

-Alternative: If you take a right, you would reach Santa Cruz de Campezo, where you shouldn´t miss the visit to the church:”Asunción de Nuestra Señora” and the hermitage: “La Virgen de Ibernalo”.

Come to an end by passing the residential area and find, to the right, the gravel track which leads to the route of Vasco Navarro.
