Itinerary description

The circular route (*) takes us from the quirky mining and railway village of Villanueva del Rio y Minas to the isolated and little known Roman Ruins of Mulva. They are set in a beautiful location in the Sierra Norte de Sevilla.
Their history is closely related to the mining industry, as the Romans extracted iron from locations further north in the Sierra Norte mountain range.

Although this is a short ride it can be easily adapted to take in more of the Sierra.

(*) The gates to Mulva at each end are open Wednesdays to Sundays until 13.30, so it may not be possible to do the circular route. Recently, the rear gate has been closed at all times owing to disputes with local farmers so the circular route is probably NOT possible, which means retracing the railway route back to Villanueva del Rio y Minas.
