This is a tour round the Tarn gorges and the national park of the great Causses in France, near Millau in three stages. The route goes through the Tarn Gorges along the river to the village of Florac. Then we climb to the top of the Méjean Causse (plateau) and then crosses all it to pull us all down to Maruei and return to the start, crossing the Jonte Gorges. Beaufitul route between canyons and plateaus.

SUMMARY OF THE ROUTE

The ro
ute starts in le Roziers, where le Tarn joins la Jonte. All the way in the first stage is through the impressive gorges, where the road passes through the rocks and the river, some times with the rocks up in your head. You find les Vignes, a pleasant village and then you reach the Point Sublime, where you can climb on foot to see breathtaking views of the river. You also pass through tunnels in the rocks.

One of the constant is the sight of the river plenty of kayaks going down the waters. You pass also through St Enimie village, very beautiful with excelents rock beaches to the river.

The first stage finishes in Castelbouc, where you find a camping near the river. After Castelbouc you finish the gorges and you reach Florac a bigger village outside the rocks of the mountains. Here, you turn right and take the steepy road that leads you to the top of the Cause Mejean. Here is a world appart of the gorges. There is few vegetation, some cultived fields, and narrow roads than crosses it with almost no cars. You pass through a little airport of light planes.

Here you only find few very small villages like Hures, with only some agricultural activity, and some cows or sheeps near the road.

After crossing all the cause, you see the end, and the road goes steeply down to the river Jonte, reaching Meyrueis, where this stage finishes. After that, you go down to the Jonte gorges, which are little less spectaculars that the Tarn ones, but are interesting the rocks that you see always over your head.

When you reach le Rosier, you join another time le Tarn and finishes the route.

WHICH BIKE
We did the trip with a touring bikes. All the surface is paved on main roads, so you can also use road bikes with no problems.

WHEN TO GO
Avoiding winter, because of the cold, the rest of the year can be ok for to do this route. In summer you can take a bath in the rivers or take a kayak to descent part of the Tarn, because there are many places to do it, and is easy to rent.

WHERE TO STAY
You can stay in camping as we did (there are some and one in the end of each stage). But Logis de France or other beautiful hotels are possible to rent.

DIFFICULTIES
I think there are not difficulties. Not very traffic, specially in the cause, where you can't almost find any car. The climb to the cause is a bit steepy, but only a few kilometers from Florac to the top.

HOW TO GET THERE
The car is the only way to reach the start of the tour.

STAGES

The trip is in three stages:

STAGE 1: Castelbouc 41 km
STAGE 2: Marueis 77 km
STAGE 3: Le Rosier 17 km
