Itinerary description

Last day of our adventure in Spain.
We woke up on the banks of the Guadiana River after a pleasant night.
It wasn't very cold or wet as we camped next to trees and further from the river.
We quickly had breakfast and tidied up everything because we heard some tractors in the distance and we were worried that we were disturbing someone by being there.
The idea would be to take it easy and when we get to Badajoz see if we still have time to catch trains home.
Slowly we followed the banks of the Guadiana along with its huge cultivated fields. It was a divine day with sun and fresh wind. I could say it was a perfect day for cycling.
In the middle of the morning we stopped in Puebla de la Calzada where we boosted our energy with a good coffee and sweets, and took the opportunity to fill our water bottles.
To Tiago's disappointment that's where he noticed a flat. Without spares and with little desire to tinker, we opted to buy air cameras since we were inside the town.
Matter resolved, we again attacked the road, that alternated between tar and gravel.
On the tarmac we shared with cars, in the gravel with huge tractors that I would say are worth more than a house.
Badajoz was very close, as well as the end of our trip. As always, there was a feeling of relief and happiness, as we were close to going home, where we would have friends, family and all the comforts.
On the other hand, a feeling of sadness because the adventure would end. Everything was going so well we could easily do a few more days.
With this thought we arrived in Badajoz, where access to the city was somewhat difficult and not very pleasant, as we followed paths surrounded by highways. The city of Badajoz was fully prepared for cycling and we thought it was worth staying to visit.
We didn't do it because we arrived in Badajoz early and had time to catch the train home.
Everything went well until the connection in Abrantes was delayed, where we realized it would delay enough that we missed the last Aveiro-Estarreja connection.
We joked about the situation but, as tired as we were, we didn't really feel like doing an extra 20km during the night.
In Aveiro, as expected, there were no more trains, it was midnight and so we made the last 20 km home by bike.
Not being enough of a challenge, we chose the route that avoids the road and goes through the fields. It was the right decision, riding with a incredible moonlight in the midle of the fields was special. But not to make it too easy, the paths were a little damaged and full of mud, along with this, Roberto was also losing air in one of the tires.
Slowly we arrived home at 2 am.
This is how our trip ended.
See you next time!
