Itinerary description
Easy birding route that will allow you to explore the lower parts of the western slope of Balandrau. By walking along this trail you will explore different habitats: coniferous forests, decidious forests, mixed forests and open subalpine meadows.
The first 1.5km of the trail is one of the best places to look for the Capercaillie. However, it doesn't mean that it is easy. You may need several visits before you get a glipmse of one of them. Species likely to be seen in the area are Red Crossbill, Coal Tit, Goldcrest, Firecrest, Red-backed Shrike, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Black Woodpecker, Goshhawk, Griffon Vulture, Golden Eagle or Lammergeier.
The best time to visit the area is in spring and summer, tough an autumn visit may be quite interesting as well. It is also possible to visit the area in winter. However, it can be tricky to get there and it usually is quite cold.
