Marismas de Txingudi 2.7 km

I made this short hike through the Marismas de Txingudi in the evening, when unfortunately all observation huts were closed. This little nature reserve which is squeezed between Irun, Hondarribia, highways and the airport, has a lot to offer, both sweet and brackish water lakes, the Txingudi estuary, a visitor center, as well as several observation towers and huts. Among others, I did see several coypus (beaver rats), a black-crowned night heron, curlews, egrets, herons, ducks and turtles. There is free parking at the start. At the entrance is a visitor center. Past the center is a little lake on your left, and a sweet water lake on your right where I observed turtles and the black-crowned night heron. You continue to the edge of the estuary with beautiful views past Itzaberri Island towards Hondarribia. You follow the dead-end path until you get to the remains of a boat at the edge of the lagoon. You turn back and follow the edge of the lagoon (with the landing strip of Hondarribia airport on the other side of the water) past several observation huts and an observation tower and Laguna Txoritegi and Laguna San Lorenzo (the lakes shielded by trees). The path turns inland past two observation huts and turns back towards the entrance. Here you walk between the two lagunas to an observation hut across the bridge between the lagunas. Another observation hut and observation tower are on this path. You then turn back to the entrance.
