NOTICE: It is understood that anyone who wants to do this same route assumes the responsibility that an activity entails that is not exempt from possible risks or incidents, in an environment in which common sense and circumstances can make the difference between having a good day or the opposite.
From the extreme northeast of Romania, which borders Ukraine and corresponds to the Moldovan region of Bukovina, we have descended to the mouth of the Danube. It is striking that despite the distance traveled, here we are still a stone's throw from the border with Ukraine, and in fact in the Romanian town in which we find ourselves in Murighiol, the percentage of the Ukrainian population is around thirty percent.
Yesterday we located a guide with a motor boat, who will take us on a couple of tours of the Danube delta. Although these incursions along the Danube can also be done by tourist boat, leaving from Tulcea, nothing to do with the possibility that they take you and someone else, with the exclusivity of being able to stop wherever you want, take photos without problems, and without this entailing an extra cost that does not compensate it. We start today's tour from the small pier next to Lake Murighiol, which is recommended by the SEO for the sighting of some of the more than two hundred and seventy species of birds in this impressive corner, declared a few years ago as a Biosphere Reserve. by Unesco. After refueling the fuel boat, we have taken the Sfantu Gheorghe canal, passing through the town of Uzlina, heading to the northwesternmost lakes of: Uzlina, Durnu, and Isacel, from which through a couple of long canals in which we have seen among other birds to the cantankerous Martín Pescador, we have gone out to the lakes: Polcoava and Gorgova. In these we have gotten tired of seeing groups of huge pelicans with the occasional youngster, as well as swans with their gray young. The groups of water coots, different types of ducks, terns, herons and egrets, as well as seagulls and ibises are endless. We have also seen both types of cormorants, but the icing on the cake was a huge eagle in a failed hunting set on a cormorant, when we were returning from Lake Isac and heading back towards Lake Pojarnja, passing through the Uzlina. In the end, a journey of almost seventy kilometers and four hours of enjoying an environment that should have the highest level of protection, so that everyone could enjoy it as we did.
