VEREDA COSTA RICA - MAMPAY - LOMA HERMOSA. Mistrató (Risaralda)
Esta "pajareada" la realizamos el día 4 de enero de 2022. La zona de la vereda Costa Rica y Mampay, localizada en Mistrató (Risaralda), es muy reconocida por la increible variedad de fauna y aves que viven en el hermosísimo bosque de niebla de la cordillera occidental.
Para llegar desde Pereira:
1. Tomar la vía pavimentada que lleva hacia el municipio de La Virginia, y continuar posteriormente hacia el cruce de caminos que lleva hacia el municipio de Belén de Umbría. Para ello, se toma la vía que conduce hacia Medellín y que tiene dos opciones de viaje: Subiendo por Anserma (Caldas) o tomando el túnel de Tesalia cercano a Viterbo (Caldas) y que conduce hacia el sector de Llanogrande.
2. El cruce hacia Belén de Umbría está muy bien señalizado. El camino hacia Belén está adornado por el Valle del río Risaralda, realmente muy bello y espectacular. La vía es pavimentada en buen estado. Se llega a Belén de Umbría y se continúa hacia Mistrató, también por vía pavimentada (hay un solo tramo corto de vía en ripio o destapada, debida a una falla geológica).
3. Al llegar a Mistrató se toma la vía que lleva hacia el corregimiento de San Antonio del Chamí. La vía es en ripio, pero muy transitable. Para arribar al sitio de avistamiento (Bird´s Home Mistrató) se toma hacia la izquierda en el cruce de caminos que lleva hacia la vereda Costa Rica y hacia San Antonio del Chamí, en donde es fácilmente reconocible un "paradero" construido en pino, muy agradable para pernoctar unos momentos.
Desde este sitio, es notorio el territorio de bosque de niebla, la lluvia y humedad permanente y la increible cantidad de aves!
El recorrido lo hicimos por la rivera de la quebrada La Honda, en el camino que conduce a San Antonio del Chamí. Solo silencio y el canto de las aves se puede disfrutar en éstos hermosos parajes montañosos y plenos de paisajes simplemente bellos. Para disfrutar la "pajareada" se recomienda por supuesto ir con un guía conocedor. En nuestro caso el guía (Arnulfo) se va armado de conocimientos de la zona y de una ayuda "multimedia" con grabaciones de las aves que habitan el territorio, para atraerlas (lo cual sí funciona!). La sensación del silencio total y se escuchar la respuesta de un ave en la distancia al canto grabado no tiene precio!
Durante el trayecto es posible visitar la Cascada El Sutú, un sitio que es incluido en la oferta de turismo de aventura en la zona y de la cual es posible encontrar variados tours que llevan hacia ella. Recomendada!
En el santuario de aves, el final de la jornada apunta a sentarse por horas en el mirador de los comederos y cebaderos para observar gran variedad de colibríes, tángaras y otras especies (algunas endémicas con la Bangsia) y disparar la cámara una y otra vez hasta el atardecer.

"Birding trekking" on January 4, 2022.

From this site (Beatiful Rain Forest), the permanent rain and humidity and the incredible number of birds are notorious!
We did the tour along the bank of the "Quebrada La Honda" on the road that leads to San Antonio del Chami. Only silence and the song of the birds can be enjoyed in these beautiful mountainous places and full of simply beautiful landscapes. To enjoy the "birding" it is of course recommended to go with a knowledgeable guide. In our case, the guide (Arnulfo) is armed with knowledge of the area and a "multimedia" help with recordings of the birds that inhabit the territory, to attract them (which does work!). The feeling of total silence and hearing the response of a bird in the distance to the recorded song is priceless!
During the journey it is possible to visit the "El Sutú Waterfall", a site that is included in the adventure tourism offer in the area and from which it is possible to find various tours that lead to it. Recommended!
At the bird sanctuary (Bird´s Home Mistrato), the end of the day aims to sit for hours in the viewpoint of the feeders and feeders to observe a great variety of hummingbirds, tanagers and other species (some endemic like the Bangsia) and shoot the camera over and over again Until the sunset.
