Itinerary description
Approximate route of our 11-day, 200-km camel trek from Arak on the Trans Sahara Highway to the Erg Bou Zerafa, via the Immidir meteorite crater on the remote Tessedit plateau. I've done this one a few times; this was the first time when we approached the crater plateau from the western, Oued Bou Zerafa canyon. It was a hard day cross country across rough terrain and we ran out of water and slept in the crater. Later treks followed the eastern Oued Taffrakret canyon; less than an hour's scramble over the ridge to the crater.
Motos and 4x4s are all very well, but not surprisingly, this is the best was to fully appreciate the amazing Sahara.
