Itinerary description
A nice scenic creek trip which stays cool in summer and offers some excellent rock pools for swimming. The best starting location is from the end of Cedar Creek road which is marked by a council installed private property sign and a fence. There is space for carparking on the edge of the road just back from the end of the road. However, it is worth noting that when I did this trip on a wednesday (outside of school holidays), there was 11 other vehicles parked at this location. I would hate to think how busy this location would get during a hot summers weekend. These people are largely here to hang out and swim at cedar creek falls a short distance up the creek.
The only abseiling itself is from the top of Love Creek Falls. All three raps are bolted and a 60m rope is needed for the 30m final rap. Bear in mind that the bolts are on flat rock making it difficult to pull your rope back down and it may even be necessary for multiple people to pull on the rope to retrieve it. The trip itself is not really canyoning but rather a nice creek walk with some abseils down a waterfall.
To get to Cedar Creek falls it is only a short rock-hop up the creek. These falls are only small and are easily scrambled over where Cedar Creek can be followed up till its junction with Love Creek. Love Creek joins from the northwest and it is best to cross over the creek and scramble up the small waterfall at this junction. Rock-hop up love creek till you arrive at Love Creek Falls. There is a gully on the northern side of the falls which can be used to reach the top of the falls. Note that it is some tricky scrambling up through here before a worn footpad contours out of the gully to the top of the falls. The first bolts are located in front of a boulder near the edge of the falls. The third set were also tricky to find and are located just back from the final drop in some vegetation.
