Itinerary description
One way climbing trail to the beautiful Emerald lagoon from East Rai Leh.
The lagoon is at the bottom of a huge sinkhole surrounded by a hundred meter limestone cliffs full of tropical flora and plants.
Climbing gear is not necessary, they recommend to do it with a guide but it’s definitely easy to do it by yourself if your are in decent shape and a bit familiar with mountains and rocks.
There are hand ropes all along the way although you can easily climb up without them since there are many holes and natural grips everywhere. However they are useful to climb down easily.
Consider that it can be way more difficult and dangerous in wet season or after rain though.
Coming back I just climbed up the last steep parts close to the lagoon without using the hand ropes, easy and fun but be careful.
Gps signal got lost a couple of time, just follow the main path.
Its also worth a visit the viewpoint above the East bay before coming back.
Notes: Around the lagoon rocks and terrain are really sharp, muddy and slippery so be careful and try to keep your shoes dry for the return.
Be sure to take a look to the tide table because sea water comes inside the lagoon only during the high tide, otherwise you will just find a muddy puddle.
Enjoy.
