Itinerary description
Discovering the 2 sightseiing in Hermel district.
Started from Kamouh Hermel, An ancient pyramid in the middle of nowhere, on top of a small hill thats can be visible from distance. Dated back to the first or second century BC, its still not clear its purpose where many suggestions are presented.
Sadly visitors have badly vandalised the monument, its base is all covered with scratches, graffiti and scribbles from the 4 sides of it!!
Then, on asphalt road, we headed towards another discovery: Mar Maroun monastery, aka caves of the priest (Mgharet El Raheb)
A sequence of caves encrusted in the cliff with a view over the greeneries covering Al Assi river. Historians says that Roman engineers were the first to inhabit the site, later in the 4th century A.D. Its been said that it was here where Mar Maroun took shelter as refugee.
