Itinerary description
Getting to the Doolittle trailhead is part of the adventure and offers some nice views of the South Yuba River. After the Canyon Creek Bridge (1.7 mile from the trail head) Maybert becomes a rutted but not very difficult dirt road. After the Golden Quartz picnic grounds (1.5 miles from the trailhead and has parking if you did not bring the right car) a high clearance vehicle is needed because of rocks and ruts you can’t completely avoid. You probably don't need 4WD. The side of the road is decorated with car part trophies to remind the unwary. Maybert detours through Arctic Mine road to avoid a closed section. The parking area we found is about 30 feet past the trailhead, has plenty of room and is easy to spot.
