nice trip. It as too warm for the time of the year, perhaps that's why we could go so far in 8 days.
mostly the paths were maintained by the authorities.

    Hello Jef,

Did you carry your gear in a pulk or in a backpack?

I am considering doing the same route but I wonder if it is okay to ski with a pulk on the ski tracks maintained by the authorities.

    Thanks!

    hi,
it was my first time in winter with ski's. I then did it with backpack, since 2018 I use sledge (much easier for balance).
In this trip we met people with sledge. I think the sledge won't demolish the loipes of the classic style routes but I'm not sure. You can also walk in the middle of the road to be sure you don't step on / demolish the loipes but then you need to pay attention for people skating cross country ski. We didn't meet many people because we went a little bit before the season opened.

    Hi Jef,
Many thanks for your kind reply.
I have made several routes in the Arctic with pulk before, but never along ski trails and always with commercial operators.
Next February will do my first ski trip alone and after several years of inactivity, and I believe your route is an excellent choice for this purpose.
Thanks again for your reply and for uploading your routes!!

no problem. I found this the best trip for me as beginner. If I should do it again now, I would try to do the tunturi in the Hetta-Pallas part and I would try to seek some routes through the forest instead of always on the easy slopes. That's why I found the day heading away from Pahtavaara the most beautiful, there was no trace.

Where have you done those trips with commercial organizations? Was it from hut to hut? We are searching for our next trip now but as we don't take the tent with us, it's becoming difficult to find a good, new area with enough cabins.

As a matter of fact I have already done the Hetta-Pallas in winter but following the summer route, which is where we used shelters every night.
I have also trekked on the Baltic Sea from Oulu to Kemi (twice), where we slept a two-three nights in fishing cabins as far as I remember. The rest of my experience was in Svalbard (also twice); all of the above as training to cross the Greenland Icecap, which I did in 2007.
However, ever since I stopped making ski trips and am planning to retake this next season. I want something easy because will travel alone for the first time and, frankly, have lost skills.
I do have a GPX files with all the mountain huts, wind shelters, lean-tos and laavus in Sweden, Norway and Finland. Maybe you will find it useful to plan hut-to-hut trips. I you want I can upload them in Wikiloc for you.

    svalbard and greenland, wow!
I have a file with all lean-tos / laavus but only from Finland. So yes, you may always upload it. Makes preparation a little more easy :-).
We don't know yet where we're heading for next winter. A part of Kungsleden / Jotunheimen / ...?

forgot that you can't upload file with many waypoints. You may always mail it to jefdries @ hotmail dot com.
Decision is made, we're heading for Skarvheimen next year!

    Hi, Jef
Sorry for such a delay in answering you: I work on a ship and I had no internet access until now.
I will send you today the waypoints for the huts/shelters on Norway and Sweden in gpx format.
I was also thinking on your earlier question about a nice route from hut to hut and have found a very nice one that you might consider on the Padjelanta National Park in Sweden. I will include a link to the page of the commercial operator who offers it where you will find all the info you need to plan your own trip.
I took a look at Skarvheimen. Looks very interesting! I may consider in for a future trip myself : )
Let me know if you don't receive today the e-mail with the waypoints: I will be using my ship's address and don't know if the satellite server will allow the message to pass through.
Cheers and have a Merry -and snowy- Christmas! Let the New Year 2020 bring lots of snow and open spaces to roam!
