Itinerary description

This track follows the black loipe from the Eifel Skicentrum (http://www.eifelskizentrum.com). This loipe is 12 km. This wikiloc track is a bit longer as I continued for a small detour to the German border at the end of the black loipe, and followed the red loipe instead of the blue/black for a short while. The loipes are nicely maintained in a quiet area. There is a small restaurant at the start. Entrance to the loipe is 2 euro.
The loipe first goes down across pasture below Rocherath to the Katzenbach. The last part of the descent is a bit steeper, but not problematic. From here, you slowly ascend on the edge of the wood until you get to a crossroads with 5 branches. Here is a bifurcation: the blue (6.3 km)/red (6.5 km) loipes go left, and you turn right on a forest road for 2.8 km. This road undulates and rises to almost 680 m. Here the loipe returns along the same forest road to the bifurcation. I extended the track by continuing on the forest road to the German border and returning via forest tracks to the end of the black loipe. When you get back to the bifurcation you take the red loipe instead of the blue/black loipe. You make a slight detour on pasture and then join the black/blue loipe again. From here, it goes back to the start through pasture and along country lanes.
I only saw other skiers when I got back to the Skizentrum: it is much quieter than at the Baraque Michel...

Until here the blue, red and black loipes follow the same route. For the black loipe you follow the forest road to the right towards Germany for 2.8 km and back. The pictures are taken on the forest road.
