Itinerary description
CAS:
ENG: This is the one way route (25,27 km). This cycling route starts at the Alzira train station and finishes at the reservoir of Tous.
On the way we made nine waypoints.
1. The entrance to the new town Tous itself where you can see the sights from the old town.
2. The old church of Tous now lies under the waters of the reservoir. The door was the entrance to that old church. The reconstructed door can be seen in the new town now.
3. Photos of the town. The town is little, but with a good atmosphere, where you rest in the park and have refreshments in local cafeterias.
4. Plaza España of Tous.
5. After a little break, we continued our cycling uphill. The route leads through the mountain range Port de Tous. The views are worth to see. It's an enjoyable route, but needs a certain amount of effort as it is leads the mountain. The elevation gain altogether was 374 m.
6. First we arrived in the panorama view of the reservoir.
7. We returned to the intersection and continued the route to the water reservoir. There are two possibilities to continue. One can take a round route as shown on the map with the points from 1 - 9 (17km more) or (as we have chosen to take a shorter route, points from 9 - 7 (9. Pueblo viejo de Tous, 8. Fuente el Chorrico, and 7. Castillo de Tous).
The evolution of the water reservoir, had flouted the route before reaching the point 9. Old town Tous, and there the route ends.
Waypoints
Door of the old Church of Tous
The old church of Tous now lies under the waters of the reservoir. This door was the entrance to that old church. This reconstructed door can be seen in the new town now.
Intersection
The whole route marked on the map is 17 km. As we didn't have so much time, we took the part of this long route (with the points marked 9, 8, 7). 9 - Pueblo viejo de Tous, 8 - Fuente de Chorrizo, 7 - Castillo de Tous). However, as later we found out, we couldn't reach any of them because the water of the dam had covered all these parts.
End of the road
We reached the end of the road. The water of the dam had naturally covered the other parts. We stopped close before reaching the point 9 marked on the map. We didn't visit any remnants of the old town, however, we could see very well the old castle on the island from the distance.
