Huy-Ciney-Dinant-Namur-Huy 127 km

Nice cycling tour, mainly on cycling paths and cycling routes. From Huy to Ciney you ride on RAVeL L126, then you ride on to Dinant on the Meuse taking a cycling route, and then you go back to Huy along the Meuse largely on cycling paths along the river. The RAVeL cycling route is on a former rail track with an easy slope. There is a climb of the Citadelle in Namur and the desert in Huy includes the infamous Mur de Huy. The rest of the tour is quite easy. There is free parking at the start. You can find something to eat and drink in Huy, Ciney, Dinant, Namur and several places along the Meuse River. The route is suited for the road bike, but there are some stretches of rough cobblestones (near Rouillon the ‘good vibrations’, and the center of Huy), and some stretches along the Meuse and in the center of Huy and Namur can be busy with pedestrians.
From the start you take the main road N641 until you can access the RAVeL cycling path L126. You follow this cycling path while it climbs through the valley of Le Hoyoux, past Pont de Bonne, until you are on the plateau. This stretch is largely in the woods. When you arrive to the plateau, the cycling track crosses countryside with fields, pasture and woods until you arrive in Ciney. You take a look in the center and then follow a cycling route on largely quite roads to Sovet and then on to the valley of the Fonds de Leffe stream. You descend through this valley to Leffe, home of the abbey brewing the famous beer. You then cycle along the Meuse to the center of Dinant, cross the bridge, and take the cycling route all the way to Namur along the Meuse. The route passes several weirs/locks, castles, towns, and cliffs. Also, just past Rouillon there is a section of original cobblestones (‘kasseien’) aptly named ‘good vibrations’. Near Namur the cycling route gets busier with pedestrians. In Namur you climb the Rue Merveilleuse to the Citadelle on a scenic road with easy to negotiate cobblestones. There are some great viewpoints along the road. The climb ends at the Esplanade, and then a descent on great asphalt brings you back down, to the Sambre River. You follow the river to the Esplanade de la Confluence where the Sambre flows into the Meuse. You cross the Pont de Jambes to the other Meuse bank, and then follow the river on the adjoining cycling paths all the way to Huy. In this section there is more industrial activity in addition to similar sights as on the previous Meuse section. When you arrive to Huy, you take a look at the central market and then take a cobblestoned road through the city center to the start of the Mur de Huy, the famous climb. You take another way down back to the center and then follow a cycling route on less well-paved roads back to the start.
