Itinerary description
Quick trip to visit the Roman ruins at Bavay.
Exiting Le Quesnoy via the beautiful and familiar Rue de Chateau (Potelle), then slowly head up north towards Bavay (a main road; moderate car traffic).
Return trip is via Gommegnies. Also a main road, but very pleasant (and seemingly downhill). Bonus right after exiting Bavay: Ramtez Castle, beautiful with an attractive garden.
To avoid crossing the less romantic parts of Le Quesnoy on my way back, I take the secluded entrance via Villereau, and succeed in busting a tyre coming down hard on a difficult slope at the end of Rlle des Loups (right; be careful).
A more than satisfactory experience.
