Itinerary description
This tour for the racing bike takes you along the ‘Voie verte des Hautes Vosges’ (http://www.lavoieverte.com/hautes-vosges/trace-voie-verte.html) through the Mosel valley and then the Moselotte valley, and then on a single col, the Col de Morbieux.
The tour starts in Le Thillot at the voie vert. Here you follow the asphalted cycling path down the valley towards Remiremont. Just before Remiremont, you turn right on the cycling path taking you up the Moselotte valley towards Saulxures-sur-Moselotte. The ‘green road’ offers great views and keeps you away from busy roads. The disadvantage is that you have to give way at almost every crossing with a road, and that half-open gates at these crossings do not only prevent cars accessing the track, but also make the cycling a bit less relaxing than it could be. The Moselotte valley is a bit wilder than the Mosel valley. In Saulxures-sur-Moselotte you leave the cycling path and climb the Col de Morbieux for 5.7 km (see also http://www.cyclingcols.com/col/Morbieux), at an average of 5.7 %. From here you descend back to Le Thillot.
