Essential high mountain pass in Norway.
The Trollstigen (the Troll ladder) is considered one of the most dangerous roads in Europe, but this classification must be taken into account especially for cars, trucks, buses, etc. Cycling is perfectly passed in addition to having the asphalt in perfect condition (June 2019).
We review here exclusively from where the port officially begins, until it is crowned. There are several ways to get to Åndalsnes, and it is possible that if you plan to climb, you will fit it into your route that will possibly be longer. Another option is to sleep in a campsite in the area and only do the port. In any case it will be worth it.
We started shooting from the Soggebrua campsite. On the same road, a few meters away, we will see the sign indicating Trollstigen 15 km. From here it has no loss. The road we must follow is more than obvious. We just have to be careful not to make mistakes and take a road that will come to us on the left shortly after starting, and another on the right that leads to a campsite. The rest is to follow the road and little by little we will go into the valley until we reach the most beautiful part, which are the curved features that go up through the wall of the mountains, between two huge waterfalls.
According to our information, the maximum height difference is 10% (a more detailed graphic appears in the video below)
The environment is of such beauty that climbing this port will be more than just "sporting deeds." The place is really overwhelming.
NOTE:
One tip: If the schedules fit you, it is advisable to go up late in the afternoon, or even "at night" (in the summer months you do not get to set the sun and you will have plenty of light) since we will not find almost traffic . In the central hours of the day there is a lot of traffic since the road is very touristy despite its danger.
We leave you here this video of The Col Collective, where everything looks great, and data of unevenness and distance are provided.
