We were able to verify what the advertising of the Togean Islands itself says: "Hard to arrive and difficult to leave". The route, although it is marked as scuba diving, is actually Snorkeling. What I have indicated is a path close to where we stayed because obviously inside the water it is not possible to mark any track. The photos are taken near the piers, but anywhere on this small coast we can see a large quantity and diversity of fauna and corals even without using bottles. Even being a bad camera we can appreciate the beauty of this environment.
The coastal town of Ampana is often the starting point for touring the Togean Islands in Sulawesi. We decided to undertake the trip to these paradisiacal Togean islands that are difficult to access. We took a ferry here that took us to Wakai, and from there to the island of Kadidiri. Once in Kadidiri there is no problem hiring daily departures for scuba diving, snorkeling... You can also practice snorkeling without hiring from the same pier.
To decide whether or not to go to the Togean, you have to take into account that they are far from everything and you need at least 2 days to get there, another 2 to leave, and you have to plan according to the days on the boat. So it is a destination that requires at least a week.
TIPS: Schedule the days of arrival and departure from the islands. There are no boats every day (see schedules at the transport entrance) and you can waste time in Ampana and Gorontalo waiting.
Better if you have a reservation in high season (July and August), but since it is complicated by communication with the Togean, they can always temporarily accommodate you while a bungalow is released.
Although you can pay by card, it is preferable to carry money, communications via Wi-Fi are not always good or non-existent.
There are also no pharmacies.
If you have to spend a few hours in Wakai waiting for the boat, go to the waterfall (“air terjun”), about 4 km north, past the market and following the street. Just ask the friendly population. Good pool for bathing.
The route described here, as well as the GPS tracks, are indicative. It is the responsibility of the person who carries it out to take the appropriate security measures for the itinerary, which will depend on both the weather conditions and the technical and physical preparation of the person carrying it out. It is very clear that everything indicated (track and comments) is for informational purposes and without any other type of encouragement, exempting the author from any responsibility for any mishap that may be suffered by whoever carries out the activity by their own free will or induced.
