Itinerary description
I joined https://www.wikiloc.com/mountain-biking-trails/zif-s-b-messines-norte-67468408 to a couple of other trails I found here on Wikiloc to avoid the long sections on the IC1. The trail over the Serra is fantastic although the ascents are brutal and the descents are rapid with, in some cases, a very loose surface giving some white knuckle moments. The route goes through several villages with cafes in most of them, so there is always the option to stop for a refresh.
You'lI see that at around 26.2km, I took a left fork which was on the original route I copied, but the "bridge" is a log over the river (see photo). Not something I'm going to carry a 30kg ebike over! If you fancy doing it, then the loop through the village is obvious.
A wonderful day out. I've labelled it "difficult" because of the distance and climbing involved. There is no single track and quite a lot of asphalt and therefore the route is not technically challenging - other than the steepness of some of the climbs and some of the descents. If you are young and fit, you'll have no problem doing this ride on a normal mountain bike. If you are old and/or decrepit (like me!) then an ebike with a full battery is recommended (and don't waste the battery on the first 25km - you are going to need it!)
