Itinerary description
The forest fires of 2021 burnt down much of the pine forests at the northern parts of Bozburun Peninsula. The southern part was not affected since there was no forest left, but that was probably because they were cut down in the ancient times. At 400 BC, Bozburun Peninsula was a part of Rhodes and the forested landscape was transformed into a series of terraces in order to grove wine and olive. And it was at this period that the settlements in this peninsula started to prosper.
Today's route is an ode to the pine forests of the peninsula, taking us through a journey of time. The route starts of with the recently burnt areas, and goes on with sections that survived the fires, finishing with the ancient terraces overlooking great views of Selimiye Bay. Almost half the route follows scenic asphalt roads with little or no traffic, 1 km of easy single track, and amazing double tracks in between.
