Itinerary description
The day when you live everything to the or on the edge. Long climb up, undulating route on on the ridge of the mountain and long a descent down, always followed by the best views so far. This is the day when you want to take it slowly, saving the battery and absorbing the views :D
The route starts near Yuvaca village with a climb and at around 7th km rewarding views come up. Just when you need it. Taking pictures of the delta, carry on for another push for 5 more km’s and we are at the ridge of Mt Mykale. On one side, you will see the beautiful coastline of Kuşadası and on the other views of Meander Delta. — 13th km
As we reach the top, we are welcomed (we hope) by a big group of beautiful and wild horses. After this the best 5 km of the day, along the edge of the mountain, starts. The best views come at a cost though, a 500 m steep ascent that you might be able to bike. If not just enjoy the views as you walk to the top.
— 18th km
Then comes a 2 km descent, passing by a forest of Anatolian Oak trees endemic to Turkey. This is followed by the last climb of the day. Only 2 km.
Last 12 km is downhill with views of the delta ahead of us! The day finishes as we reach one of the most beautiful villages of the region, Doğanbey. Filled with houses of fine architecture and stone cobbled streets, the village was once home to Anatolian Greeks. The christian residents then were forced to move to Greece (and thus muslims in Greece were forced to move to Turkey) and the houses were abandoned for a long time. Until some Turkish people invested in restoring the houses and making it their private homes and occasionally converting them to cafes and guesthouses.
