Zeilt - Kluckbach - Schwingsborn

A rather short trip vom Kalterherberg, which packs a lot of driving fun into just two hours. The trail explores the valleys of the Rur, the Kluckbach, the Fuhrtsbach and the Perlenbach. There are some beautiful single trail rides through and down the meadows, and the lakeshsore drive along the Perlenbach dam - but be forewarned - this trail also has a lot of climbing to be done.

To top it all, the tour cruises through the center of Monschau, where you can while away the hours.

The tour uses two infrequently used, but interesting single trails to and from Monschau: the Zeilt (which we use for going down from Kalterherberg into the Rur valley) and the Schwingsborn (which we climb up on our return). Most cyclist use the RAVeL, or the Rurtal bicycle path, or the forest roads connecting Kalterherberg and Höfen, and our two variations will certainly be a welcome alternative.

The Kluckbach, a tributary of the Rur, forms a very quiet and peaceful valley, before reaching Höfen.

Don't miss the way point Abfahrt Fuhrtsbach. A particularly nice descent starts here, towards the Fuhrtsbach. Note that there is no house (or Häuschen) at waypoint Holländerhäuschen. The house belonging to the Holländer (Dutchman) is long gone. Those with ebike follow our tracks uphill, and then down again on asphalt, towards the Höfener Mühle. This detour avoids a particularly difficult stretch of trail along the Perlenbach - those with excellent riding skills may try the shortcut.

Note that you have to carry your bike up for five steps and down the bridge across the Rur, at the confluence with the Kluckbach
