Itinerary description
Day 8 of another bikepacking trip around Palawan. The aim of this trip was to ride roads I still haven’t ridden in the north half of the island.
The bike used for the trip was a cyclocross type Kona Sutra LTD with 700 x 47 tires and 30Tx10-42 gear. Wikiloc limits to 25 the number of waypoints to add to the track. If you want more waypoints (stores, places to eat and stay, etc.) just contact me and I will send them to you.
Route from Taytay to Sibaltan using east coast road. I rode this road from Taytay to New Ibajay and then continued to El Nido in November 2017. Most of this route goes along unpaved road that starts 3 kilometers after leaving Taytay and the last 25 kilometers, starting before Oton, are mostly paved.
I added some extra kilometers to visit Canique Falls, 20 kilometers north of Taytay, and the villages of Silanga, Talaotauan, and Villa Paz.
It is possible to ride up to the entrance of the falls from where there is a 400-500 meters track to the falls. You can push your bike easily and even ride most sections of the trail. There is a shelter right on the falls for picnic or even camping.
There are a few places to stay in Sibaltan, most of them right on the beach with bamboo huts and/or tents with prices around 350-500PHP for the basic ones. As Sibaltan is getting busier, it is recommended to book in advance. Most of the lodges can be booked online using agoda, etc.
