Itinerary description
This 48 Km trip is a great way for cyclists wanting to connect Pai with Chiang Mai via an alternative route. When compared to the route most cyclists take (via Mae Taeng) yes the climbs can be steeper, and some parts of the road have seen better days, but road traffic is greatly reduced. Expect to go through a few villages, so option of getting water and some snacks / food will not be lacking. The trip ends in the little village of Pae Pae, which sits on road #1095 - the road that mini vans transporting people from Chiang Mai to Pai use. Pae Pae does have a few accommodation options available, but since it sits around half way between Chiang Mai and Pai, those with strong enough legs could make it from Samoeng all the way to either of the two in one single day. Samoeng - which I recommend should be the place to rest on the night of day 1 - has plenty of accommodation options, lots of food options, etc.
