Itinerary description
"Ruta 0-4-0" is route from sea level (0) to Pico del Teide (almost 4K) and back (0). I attempted to make it. Unsuccessfully this time.
But...
I started touching the water at Playa del Socorro at about 23:00. I slept only few hours previous night and was falling asleep on every stop (while standing). This made every steps few times more difficult than it should be. At about 3 AM I had to go to sleep. I had a mattress and just went for it. It was above 1700 m altitude and I was freezing (but I was able to sleep for few hours). When I woke up in the morning (around 7 or 8) I decided to go further and see how it goes. I got to 2K altitude, went little bit farther, little descent, and I got to 2K again :D That's why it's "Ruta 0-2-0". Instead of getting to Teide peak, I got to 2K.
Going back to Playa del Socorro was also painful. It was hardest trek in my life. I hated every second of it. I will never ever go for harder trek without having enough sleep. It makes it few times more difficult.
But to be honest I'm not so sure I would do it even if I was properly rested. I probably would, but it would take quite some time.
Time is important aspect here cause you need permit to get to Teide peak during the day. And those permits need to be acquired few months prior - not my way of living life. So only solution for me is to get there during the night for the sunrise so that before 9 o'clock I would be back below the attitude that they require permits for. I gave myself too little time to do it. Guys that I started with did it on time, but they were very fast. I don't have their fitness level yet :)
So this time I didn't reach you Pico del Teide. But it's not my last word. See you soon :)
