Itinerary description
Last hike in the Alps in 2010 (2 weeks vacation) and last before I moved to Japan a few weeks later.
From Saint-Véran we reluctantly rode the shuttle to the trail head to save time and avoid a long flat road.
The trail starts all but flat to le lac de la Blanche and then becomes a bit more steep in barren grounds to le Col de la Noire, a side trail took us to our summit, nearby la Tete des Toilies. Some climbers could be seen in the midst of their ascension. Some other climbers were targeting another summit South of le col de la Noire.
After the pass we got down to le lac de la Noire, one of the highest European lakes. We passed other lakes and entered Italy. La Tete des Toilies was partly occluded in the clouds and another steep uphill took us back to France.
Overall a very nice hike, a bit long and probably not for families.
