Itinerary description
The trail started from Dmit in a downhill trek until we reached the Ottoman road. The Ottoman road took us to Oqbayaa village and down a narrow path full with bamboo plants until we reached the Serjbal riverbank next to the Saab clan watermill. The group crossed the river (rock hopping) to the other bank where the Dmit trail ends and the Serjbal Trail begins. The Serjbal trail is an almost flat trail by the river until we reached Tayyab Saaya where we had our lunch break; the Serjbal trail ended here. The group then walked uphill and on to a dirt road (some 150+ pavement at the beginning) to reach the Jahlieh trail. The Jahlieh trail took us through many ponds with different shades of watercolors; the damp fall weather and tree shades made the trail look like a serene black and White O’Keefe pictures. The Jahlieh trail took us all the way to Matrashe. After a short break in Matrashe we headed back to the beginning of the Jahlieh trail and onto the bus.
The trail was mostly a walk by water bodies. The water was at its lowest flow (end of summer where springs tend to lose its water). To get the best views of this trail and water flow at its peak, I recommend the trail be done end of March early April.
The plus side of this time is the makeshift resorts and restaurants are all gone and you get to enjoy the trail with no HUMAN-made distractions.
Waypoints
Go Right
Castle
This house is visible from Mechref and this was the first time I see it up close.
Go Left
Go Straight
Yatoon (Kiln)
Used by locals to burn rocks and turn them into white powder to be used in painting houses. It is now a rest area for hikers/nature lovers.
Go Left
There is a roman bridge about 30 meters from turning left. This used to be the Ottoman road.
Bqayaa Village
A small (very small) village at the bottom of the valley. We came across two men cutting wood to prepare for winter. 2021 is a year of financial scarcity in Lebanon and many cannot afford buying gasoline.
Fkhayty Area
A small part of Dibbiye village. Elie Saab, the world renowned Haute Couture, is a descendant.
Tayyab Habib Azzi
Tayyab means a bottleneck; especially in water conduits. The river is restricted by narrowing of its path.
Tayyab Shaaya
A nice rest area that is usually frequented by swimmers and youngsters who want to enjoy a nice day in the water. It has a nice waterfall and cliff with a view.
