Itinerary description
We started this walk from the free parking at the Parque El Salano.
For the greatest part of this hike we followed the white/yellow markings of the PR-A-345 up to the point where we arrived at the town of Lanjarón again. Here we chose to walk through the lengthy centre of the town with its numerous fountains and surprising 'portals'.
From the car park we descended into the park along a nice track from 680m. to 600m. to the rock on which the ruins of the Castillo are situated.
The views from the Castillo are spectacular.
From the Castillo we followed the PR-A-345 signs along a beautiful track that will lead you down to the Rio Lanjarón, partly along a lively 'acequia' full of water, into a green valley.
After crossing the bridge the track goes up on the western side of the sheer rockface that dominates the view from Lanjarón itself to a roundabout view at 520m.
After this the track gradually ascends to 640 m. to the point where you get to the road (A348) and the Mirador de El Visillo, which itself also is a good starting point for this hike with its picknick area and ample parking spaces.
The track continues on the other side of the road and when you cross the small bridge across an empty water canal you will follow the track to the Ermita Del Tajo de la Cruz, situated at 720m, giving you wonderful views both of Lanjarón and the Embalse de Rules to the south east as well as the sea.
At the junction with a track to Órgiva to the east the track veers north and descends along a very remarkable old cobbled track to a small road. The PR-A-345 follows this very quiet road for more or less 3.5 kilometres giving you views all the time.
After this stretch a winding descent along a cobbled track will take you to the road and to Lanjarón, where we decide to go through the town whereas the PR-A-345 will take you along the town on a higher altitude.
