Itinerary description

Second part of an alternative route from Paris to Santiago.
Because the official Via Turonensis between Paris and Orléans offers little accommodation, most pilgrims walk from Paris via Chartres to Tours. An alternative is to walk not south into Chartres, but west, to the traditional pilgrimage site of Mont-St-Michel and then arrive at St-Jean-d'Angély on the historic Via Turonensis.
A description of this route can be found in "Le Chemin des Marais salants vers Compostelle: le Mont-St-Michel - Rennes - Nantes - St-Jean-d'Angély" by François Lepère. This not only describes the route but also the overnight accommodation options. It is available from Amazon or from the publisher "www.lepere-editions.com".
The road is well marked
Unfortunately, he does not provide a track that belongs to this route. Hence this upload.
To support François Lepère in his work, no further information has been included in my description. (Future) pilgrims can purchase the guide and then have all the information they need.
In every department through which this road passes there is a departmental Jacobsvereniging that offers an overview of overnight accommodation options. These mainly focus on overnight stays with (former) pilgrims. This does require a basic knowledge of French, but it does offer the opportunity to get to know local pilgrims. The URL of the sites of these Jacobs societies can easily be found with Google.
Mr Lepère does follow existing routes, but major detours, such as you see on the GR roads, are avoided.
In the guide, the 485 km route is divided into 18 stages. Because there are sufficient overnight accommodation options, it is possible - if your physical condition allows it - to do it in fewer stages.
The historic pilgrimage cities of Rennes and Nantes are worth a more extensive visit.
If you walk this tour in the autumn, you will encounter enough vineyards to regularly pick a tasty bunch of grapes.
The route is simple. It is possible to follow the route on a (mountain) bike. If you are a touring cyclist, on a bicycle with heavy suitcases at the front and rear, it is better to follow the route for touring cyclists.
