Itinerary description
First part of an alternative route from Paris to Santiago.
Because the official Via Turonensis between Paris and Orléans offers little accommodation, most pilgrims hike from Paris via Chartres to Tours. An alternative is to walk not south in Chartres but west, to the traditional pilgrimage site of Mont-St-Michel.
Here too, the accommodation options are not plentiful, but fortunately François Lepère has published a guide that does provide an overview of where you can sleep.
The book is called "De Paris au Mont-St-Michel - En Chemin vers la Merveille" and is published by "Editions Lepère". It is available from Amazon or from the publisher "www.lepere-edditions.com".
Unfortunately, he does not provide a track that belongs to this route. Hence this upload.
To support François Lepère in his work, no further information is included in these description. (Future) pilgrims can buy the guide and then have all the information they need.
Mr Lepère does follow existing routes, but major detours, as you see on the GR roads, are avoided.
In the guide, the 395 km route is divided into 17 stages. Because there are plenty of overnight accommodations, it is possible - if your physical condition allows it - to do it in 13 or even 10 stages.
The route is easy. It is possible to follow the track on a (mountain) bike. If you are a touring cyclist, on a bicycle with heavy panniers at the front and rear, it is better to follow the route for touring cyclists.
