Itinerary description
- Calzada Romana de Portmán Pr Mu (1.6 km)
- Ciprés de Cartagena (2.5 km)
- Perfil del suelo (3.0 km)
- Umbría (3.3 km)
- Monte de las Cenizas (4.7 km)
- Batería de Negrete (5.2 km)
We started this walk from a parking place near the beginning of the Calzada Romana. This broad and cobblestone-like track gradually goes up through the woods to the RM-314.
After reaching the road and following it briefly a gate leads uou to another broad track that goes gradually up to the Bateria de Las Cenizas.
This part will give you beautiful views inland and of the Calblanque coast, towards La Manga (Mar Menor) and Cartagena.
From the Bateria de Las Cenizas, a derelict place, the views are stunning.
The track down is in complete contrast wit the track up. It is steep, with huge steps at the beginning of the desent, and narrow. However, the beauty of it makes up for this. If you like a steep climb and a slow and longer descent you could walk this route the other way round.
We did not include the Faro of Portman on our walk this time, as we have done this before, but it is worth the detour.
