Itinerary description
Haouch el Omara - Ed Dîmâne
A total immersion in the barren lands, within a spectacular hills and valleys. From distance, u can see dozens of hills surrounding you and u can predict your route by seeing it engraved on top of them.
As a first thought, before starting seriously drawing this trail, we were convinced that it is impossible to cross this whole section without sleeping at some point, but we set up our minds to defeat this challenge and the idea was to aim making a time record for traversing this section.
Being in the middle of this large isolated area cut out from any signal, and being away at least 10kms from any near village, we were vigilant with every step we made.
The idea was to try traversing the barrens that are on the Lebanese western range of mountains by drawing a straight line behind us and to do it in one day.
You need your night hiking gears, a minimum of 4 liters of water, jacket and snacks. The only water spring we encountered was Ain El Maaouleh (M32ouleh) which was after 20kms from the beginning.
So we started trekking at 3:15am in the early morning from Saydet Zahle. The scene was absolutely stunning, the power was cut out from all Zahle except the shrine of Saydet Zahle that was shining brightly.
The first 7 kms were on paved road, descending from Saydet Zahle shrine to the Boulevard and started mounting up to Wadi El Aarayech village, we could've taken the dirt road earlier by 2 kms, but we've been told that there is a big farm on the way that has many unleashe dogs.
About an hour and a half on this dirt road, the dawn started to rise and we were able to contemplate the dramatic surroundings.
Our target was to end our trail at Saydet Annoubine, to trek from Saydet Zahle to Saydet Annoubine but unfortunately we couldn't because of the timing. We reached Dimane at dawn and we didn't want to venture in the valley at night and have my sister alone picking us from down and the fog was a killer on that afternoon. But we definitely consider the mission accomplished with perfection :)))
