Itinerary description
As part of the El Montseny Natural Park, the peak of Tagamanent is a location for the first prehistoric settlers, with mediaeval churches and chapels, large farmhouses and old tracks travelled for hundreds of years, flour mills and ice wells, fields and bundles of crops scattered across the mountainside. All together it is evidence of a town that grew around two churches and a castle, in stunning surroundings, rich in flora and fauna.
This is a linear route of 14km. A MEDIUM level of fitness is required to reach the summit and the paths are mostly gravel roads and well trodden rural walking paths, all in good condition. I recommend allowing 6-8 hours to complete the route.
The route starts in Figaro and passes via a path along vallcarquera river and waterfall. Following a rural road passing several stone farmhouses in the hamlet of vallcarquera. After the route turns off onto a rural mountain trail up a forestall path along the serra de les Sapines to arrive at the Bellver farmhouse restaurant. A meal here costs 37 Euros per person and is food cooked with local produce from the surrounding farms. After Bellver restaurant the trail leads up to Taganament castle summit. From the castle follow the GR5 path down to Sant Martí de Centelles passing via the ruined Can Amet Farmhouse.
