Itinerary description
Pickup Karakol at 6am in 4wd to starting point. Hike up to Ala-Kul lake, then continuing to the pass at 3900m. Going down on the other side there are two options: (1) behind the viewing point peak there is a trail we took but it had snowed which made it slippery and a bit dangerous (2) straight down on the gravel slope from where you arrive. No snow but loose stones. I’d recommend to do (1) without snow and (2) in case there is snow.
Rest of hike easy technically just many hours. Sleeping in Altyn Arashan and next day easy hike downriver to catch the marschrutka back to Karakol. An intense hike with rewarding landscapes and experiences.
